Review of 2011 searches becomes most shared advert

The Zeitgeist 2011 advert, created by Google, has become the most shared ad during December 2011. According to the Internet Advertising Bureau UK, the Google Zeitgeist ad was shared over half a million times on Facebook, Twitter and blogs. The Zeitgeist translates to

“the spirit of the times”

and reveals the most popular search items every year.

It is usual for businesses to create ads in the run up to Christmas in an aim to capture the viewer’s imagination and attention, sharing the ads with others in a valuable marketing ploy. Google Zeitgeist 2011 had the most shares, with other famous names appearing in the Top Five of the IAB UK list. David Attenborough secured a spot in the Top Five, singing Wonderful Life on behalf of the BBC. The John Lewis advert found us watching a boy who was counting the days until he could give his mother and father their Christmas present.

The Discovery Channel was advertised by sloths, while an advert from Apple shows a thoroughly modern Santa Claus using an iPhone. Harvey Nicholls joined the Top Five from IAB UK with a “Walk of shame”. According to IAB UK, the Google Zeitgeist video 2011 was one of the most popular ads to be searched for over the festive period.

Whether a business is situated in Ellesmere Port or LA, advertising is an essential component of online marketing. Google, as usual created an advert which would be remembered and was searched for more than 500,000 times. That’s why Google plays an integral role in search engine optimisation.
