Recent reports in the media have suggested that Google+ is a dying network, which Google have strenuously denied. According to the search engine giant, the social networking site has only just started. A private launch in June saw media reports that Google+ would be a rival for Facebook, which has now turned into a stream of news headlines which have appeared on the front of some US publications.
Headlines from Forbes scream “A Eulogy for Google Plus”, while reports at Slate take a no nonsense approach with “Google+ is dead”. Not everyone has lost faith in the network, as Mashable, the blog for social media reports the possibility of Google+ being a fierce competitor in the online world.
Google has already made surprising in roads, gaining 10 million users in the initial 16 days following its launch. After the first 100 days of operation, the social networking site had attracted 40 million users, whereas Twitter and Facebook took two years to achieve the same number of users. The last figures to be released by Google was in October, with no updates being released since that date.
Facebook is now adopting some of the features which created interest for Google+, like being able to group friends with different interests into separate groups. The addition of new features will maintain interest for social networking sites, creating competition between them, which can only be good for users.
