Possible SEO trends for 2013

As it reaches its conclusion, 2012 has proved to be another year of change and innovation for the internet. Most notable developments and news has focused on social media platforms and integration, though search engine updates also saw SEO having to evolve.

This will continue to be true of the forthcoming year of course. Understandably, as decorations start to appear in houses across the land, possible trends for 2013 are already being discussed.

Continuing algorithm changes

Websites that are run from the world over, from Chester to California have had to update their existing search engine optimisation plans following the release of captive Penguin and Panda.

Wide scale extinction of sites has not developed though, it is widely believed changes will continue to be needed in 2013. More authority will be required, more relevance needed and greater link building needed.

Lesser tweaks may also be needed, as search engines continue invest time and money into giving their results the edge.

The journey ahead

To better deliver a positive experience to customers, greater work will also be needed to understand the path to purchase that users take. This will directly impact SEO.

With more and more incoming channels, diversification of sites will be needed. This will allow each customer journey to become a tailored affair. Helping create and underline customer relationships, it could spawn a whole new online marketing department.

These are just two of the trends that can be comfortably predicted really, but marketers will need to look out constantly for developing trends.
