A new image for Facebook News Feed is about to be released, with analysts and reporters invited to the revelation of the enhanced feature. The News Feed provides users with a stream of updates and posts from friends on a front page, and the last changes made by Facebook to it occurred around 18 months ago. The page can be configured so that a user will only see their preferences.
The update comes hot on the heels of another new feature – Graph Search – which was introduced in January. It allows people to find restaurants, shops or tradespeople locally based on the recommendations of their Facebook friends. This feature was expected to have a huge impact on localised search engine optimisation campaigns of businesses. Suggestions have been made that Facebook will dedicate an increased amount of space and attention for videos and photos, which could be good news for companies that use the social media platform to promote themselves.
These recent changes are designed to encourage those using Facebook to spend a little more time on the site, and to diversify their browsing habits. Given the sheer scale of the social media platform, such changes are usually introduced gradually to ensure a smooth transition, so over time, businesses will see more opportunities for posting video and photographic content in thei commercial section
Facebook recently announced the purchase of Atlas, an online advertising service. Using this feature, companies are able to track activity generated by their adverts, which should prove useful as part of their SEO campaign.
