Google Currents has now been released, a mobile app that lets users collate content from various websites and display in one place. The result has been described as an online magazine, which has been personalised. The app was released just one day after Apple released Flipboard for iPhones. The app was already popular with iPad users, although iPhone users experienced a variety of problems initially.
Flipboard is only compatible with iOS, whereas Google Currents is suitable for Apple and Android iOS devices. A similar app is available from Yahoo, entitled Livestand, with other versions from Pulse and AOL Editions also available and free of charge. All the apps have a similar theme, allowing users to collect content from the Internet, including photos, their Facebook or Twitter accounts and news to arrange on the screen in a manner which resembles a magazine. Users can flick through the pages that display their content, keeping all relevant information together.
A demonstration video has been created and posted in a Google blog post, to familiarise users with the app. The search engine giant has collaborated with 150 publishers, including PC World, Forbes, Zagat and Al Jazeera, to make content and articles available to the new app. It has been specially designed to make it compatible with mobile devices, easier to navigate and read.
Google creates a constant stream of opportunities for content to be found and displayed by users. People who work in SEO have to work especially hard to create an original and competitive SEO campaign.
