New custom lead form spotted on Instagram

Some Instagram users have noticed a new option that, if introduced across the board, should help businesses to get more enquiries through the platform.

It appears that select users are seeing the option when they add an action button to their profile. Action buttons are available for those with business profiles, and appear on a business’s page as a call to action button, wherein they can book an appointment and order food, among other actions.

Now, users are seeing another action button option – adding a lead form.

When selected, businesses have the option to either choose a standard form, which pre-populates fields with email addresses, names, and phone numbers – information users have already given to Instagram – or, they can choose a custom lead form. Doing so allows businesses to add customised question fields. Businesses have the option to choose between short answer or multiple choice responses with these custom questions.

Making it as easy and streamlined as possible for customers to engage with a business online is key to encourage leads and sales. By offering the option to fill out a custom form in-app, businesses will be able to get the exact information they require, while customers will have the ease and speed of filling in the from without being taken out of the Instagram platform – which may be a more attractive option to some.

As of yet, it’s uncertain as to whether Instagram is in the midst of testing the feature, or whether it’s in the process of being rolled out to all business accounts, as more and more users are now seeing the feature, but it isn’t yet listed in the official guide to Instagram action buttons for business profiles. Social Media Today has reached out to the platform for more information, but is yet to receive a response.

However, whether in testing or in the process of a rollout, if you have a business profile on Instagram, it’s well worth checking to see if you have this feature and, if so, making the most of it by setting up a custom lead form.
