Google recently revealed that most of the online searches carried out through its engine in the US were from mobile devices.
This news means that, for the first time, people carrying out search queries through desktops were surpassed by users on the move. As such, search engine optimisation (SEO) specialists may want to ensure that their pages are ready for mobile traffic, especially as Google has been penalising sites that are not properly prepared to be displayed on handheld devices since mid-April.
The search engine company has stated that this is now the case within 10 countries, including the USA and Japan, although it did not reveal the others on the list. All in all, Google is said to handle around 100 billion queries across the globe every month, with mobile increasingly taking up a larger percentage of this figure.
Internet marketing agencies may also be interested to know that the search company has reportedly been introducing more advertising formats suited for smartphones, which could help to provide greater returns on their SEO efforts. This includes consumers being able to purchase a product or service with a click of a few buttons, as well as making it easier for the public to browse and compare their choices.
Google also recently announced a set of new tools to help with mobile analytics, so that brands carrying out SEO work can be surer of their online efforts. By adding greater value to smartphone searches, the tech company is hoping to enhance the experiences of its users.
