Misspelled road name too expensive to correct

A spelling mistake has been discovered in the name of a road in a Cambridgeshire village, but correcting it would be prohibitively expensive according to a parish official.

In Upper Cambourne, which stands on part of the old Bourn airfield, all the roads are named after World War II aircraft that were based at RAF Bourn. Sterling Way was originally intended to have been named after the Stirling bomber, but an error occurred somewhere in the communication between the parish and district councils.

According to John Vickery, the parish clerk, the cost of correcting the road name could potentially run into thousands. In addition to changing the road signs, Vickery claims there could be other costs related to changing driving licenses and house deeds, as well as costs to businesses.

While correcting a spelling error for a road name can be difficult, electronic content is much easier to correct, however it’s still important to spelling errors in your content before an item is published. If you have a popular news feed, hundreds or even thousands of visitors may notice a potentially damning mistake before you notice it yourself.

While there will always be a chance of mistakes making it onto your website news feed, there are ways to minimise this. For example, having all of your content checked by an experienced editor will catch the vast majority of errors. What’s more, do you really have the time to post regular news items? Sourcing your content through news writing services can free up your time and minimise errors.
