Microsoft Edge releases money-saving feature

Tech giant Microsoft has recently unveiled a new feature that will help online shoppers using its Edge browser save money.

Ahead of the notorious Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, in which online shopping receives a monumental boom, Microsoft has rolled out its new coupon and discount code feature. With the new tool, when a user is on an online shop, a new button in the URL bar – shaped like a price tag – will highlight any coupon codes found.

In a description of the new feature, Microsoft said:

“We’ll automatically find you the best prices and coupons from across the web as you shop.”

The coupon codes will detail the code itself, a description of the code – for example, the percentage saving – and the domain the code is valid to use on. Clicking on the code, users can copy it to their Clipboard and enjoy their savings.

Microsoft already has an existing feature named “Collection”, which compares prices of products across various platforms. The addition of this new feature, which will use Microsoft’s Bing search engine to find and extract all the coupons and discounts, has the potential to boost Edge as a preferred browser, as one in four of British online shoppers always search for a discount code when making an online purchase.

Currently, the feature is only being rolled out for a selection of popular retailers, and as of yet, Microsoft hasn’t indicated whether it will be extending it onto a larger range of sites. The feature is also not yet available to all users, but you can check whether you can currently make use of this tool by going into “Settings” on Edge, loading up the “Privacy” tab and scrolling down to the “Services” section. Here, if you are eligible for the feature, you should be able to toggle a “Save time and money with Shopping in Microsoft Edge” setting.

This new Shopping feature highlights the constant development of the online shopping sphere. In the light of the pandemic, wherein consumers are increasingly turning to shopping online, ensuring your business has a strong online presence and a customer-friendly ecommerce solution is more important than ever.
