LinkedIn acquires video app for creators

LinkedIn acquires video app for creators

Business networking platform LinkedIn has announced it has obtained Jumprope, an app in which users can create how-to videos.

Jumprope is an app people can use to make informative tutorial videos to share with their online audiences, adding their own videos and images to customisable templates. LinkedIn’s acquirement of Jumprope was announced by Jake Poses, the app’s CEO, in a LinkedIn post. He explained that his team will now work solely on LinkedIn in order to build the networking tool’s products for creators.

The move comes as LinkedIn focuses on expanding its video options, which ties in with the development of its tools for creators and its expansion of its LinkedIn Learning courses. Similarly to platforms like Facebook and Twitter, which have both released new offerings this year to entice creators, acquiring the video app is also a move to help encourage people to keep creating on the platform, along with helping to boost the engagement of its users. As reported by Social Media Today, LinkedIn also has hopes to eventually allow its creators to make money through ads and sponsored content using tools like Jumprope.

As a result of the acquisition, both the Jumprope website and app will be deactivated on Friday, August 20, with the tool then only available to LinkedIn creators.

LinkedIn is a platform on the rise. In the period October-December 2020, there was an increase in LinkedIn sessions of 30%*, and the amount of content shared on the platform has increased by 50% year-on-year**. The release of Jumprope on the platform will likely see these figures increase, especially as video is one of the most engaging forms of content.

Using platforms like LinkedIn to make connections and promote your business can help to generate valuable leads and brand awareness.
