A thank you letter sent three years ago to the All England Club has been put on display in Wimbledon’s museum. The letter, written by the future Duchess of Cambridge, was penned in 2008 extending her gratitude to officials after a visit to Wimbledon. It is believed that Kate gave her permission for the letter to go on display, perhaps unaware of the spelling errors. Despite her education at Marlborough College and St Andrews University, Kate proves that spelling is not her strongest point.
The words that Kate spelt incorrectly are ‘quite’ instead of ‘quiet’ and ‘till rather than ‘til. The two page letter thanks the officials for a day at Wimbledon with her friend, grateful for the chance to relax when things became hectic. Fans of Kate have been left wondering whether she will make an appearance at Wimbledon before her departure for an official tour of Canada and the United States with her husband, Prince William.
Spelling errors and grammatical errors seem so irrelevant but as the Duchess of Cambridge has discovered, errors can cause a huge amount of embarrassment. Although Kate’s adoring public is sure to forgive her the errors, the public are not usually as forgiving with a business website that is littered with mistakes. Writing web copy on a regular basis is difficult, especially if you don’t have a grasp of the English language which is confusing for many people. Rather than risk poor copy that’s full of spelling errors, outsource content writing to a professional UK copywriting agency so that your website conveys a professional image to the public.
