Leading lights of SEO dont understand content power

After speaking with a client yesterday, it was surprising to hear that someone in the SEO community, who happens to be one of the best at what he does, doesn’t really get the whole content idea.

Sure, they know that relevant, fresh, daily content is good, but they feel more safe when restructuring a page of text, moving the H1 tag here, adding a link to there and so on. There is nothing wrong with this – in fact its a damn necessity, but, AND its a big but, they do not seem to have the staying power and discipline that helps to build a site for the future for their clients.

I’m sure that the clients that they work on have probably one of the best SEO services in the world, but isn’t it in the clients interest to grow their site so that they can stand on their own two feet once the SEO contract is completed?

I still cannot make up my mind whether the SEO doesn’t understand the power of content or is it the fact that they want more business in the future from a client that needs extra SEO work and links because of a lack of content?
