Internal locations now a feature of Google Maps

The latest version of Google Maps for mobile users is a useful tool for anyone who finds themselves getting lost inside stores or airports. The application which was released recently will now feature the floor plans of some indoor areas. However, the feature is currently only available in the United States and Tokyo. Google has launched a tool which they hope will develop into a store of internal maps of airports, retail outlets and malls in various countries.
Mobile users will be able to view themselves on the application, marked as a blue dot to show the exact location inside the venue.

As the user moves around the venue, the location will update. The mobile app will give access to locating cash machines, toilets, and airport gates in addition to many more. Google are to introduce a tool which will let the owner of a venue upload floor plans so that it can be included in the database. The tool will be free of charge, although initial use may counter some minor problems as it will be in testing mode.

Advertisements and special offers for venues won’t be included in the directions provided. The new feature of Google Maps appears to work inside buildings with poor signal reception, although the application enables maps to be stored on devices so that they can be accessed without Internet connection.

Google strive towards making life easier for users, making it easier to locate businesses and services. These improvements create a requirement for a company’s SEO campaign to be updated regularly, whether in Liverpool, UK or the United States.
