Instagram has announced a new update that will see professional accounts on the platform gain more insight into whether their content is suitable to be shown to non-followers.
The update was announced by the photo and video sharing platform’s CEO, Adam Mosseri. Mosseri explained in the video, posted on Twitter, that the ‘Account Status’ information is being expanded:
✅ Account Status Update ✅
We're expanding Account Status so professional accounts can understand if their content may be eligible to be recommended to non-followers.
Here’s how to get to it: Profile -> Menu -> Settings -> Account -> Account Status pic.twitter.com/QbxjQF06vR

The Account Status dashboard was initially launched in October 2021 before being gradually rolled out to users throughout 2022, with Instagram saying all professional accounts now have the feature.
Now, if a professional account has posts that potentially violate Instagram’s guidelines, it will be able to see this – and which posts are the cause of the offense – via the Account Status dashboard. Within the dashboard, a yellow alert will appear if this is the case, with a green tick appearing if posts are eligible to be shown to non-followers in the Explore tab and as recommended posts in a user’s feed, as seen in the example below:
Businesses will also have the opportunity to edit an offending post, remove it or appeal the decision with Instagram by clicking ‘Disagree with decision’.
This is great news for businesses and influencers who want to organically grow their followings on the platform by having their posts recommended to others. It may be that some of their posts are unknowingly breaking the rules – making the ability to see the offending posts extremely useful in tackling the issue.
