You may have written the most well-polished and thought-out Facebook post of your online career. So, how can you ensure people actually see it?
With social media these days, it’s all about the algorithm. You may have noticed that the more dog videos you watch, share or comment on, the more you get shown… well, dog videos.
That’s because the algorithm is learning what you like, so will show you more of what it knows will grab your attention to keep you scrolling.
If you’re trying to build a following on social media, it’s all about visibility – just like a physical storefront, your online presence needs to be attracting the right people. Below, we’ll look at ways in which you can do this.
Know your audience, so that they can know you
If you want your content to be viewed by more people, you’ll need to ensure you’re creating it with them in mind.
Who are the people you’re trying to attract? What do they like – what are they searching for?
The more you know about your audience, the more you can craft content that will appeal to them. This can be through Instagram reels, TikToks or carefully curated LinkedIn posts – it doesn’t matter what form of media it is, so long as it’s relevant to your target customer base.
Spend some time doing your research and finding out where your customers are hanging out online. If the majority of your target clients spend their time on Facebook, then guess what – that’s where you’ll need to be.
Engage with your audience
Your customers can’t get to know your brand if you haven’t yet found your voice.
Strive to be as authentic as you can, and let that carry through into your social media. Given the prevalence of online shopping, you may never meet the majority of your customers, so use your platform as your chance to get interactive.
Pull your audience in with a great photo or video, and then allow the copy to do the talking – consider the reader, and what your business can do for THEM, rather than trying to give them the hard sell. It’s like a date – if you end up talking about yourself the whole time, odds are, the other person will switch off.
Instead, talk to them as you would a friend, and show them the ways that you can help them. If the reader isn’t interested, then they can keep scrolling – it’s fine. They weren’t your target customer in the first place.
Work on building a quality customer base rather than just trying to appeal to as many people as possible, otherwise ultimately, you may end up appealing to no-one.
