Senior Google associate John Mueller has given a crystal clear reminder about the importance of producing quality web content when attempting to use search engine optimisation (SEO) to boost your search engine rankings.
As Google’s Senior Webmaster Trends Analyst, there can’t be many people on planet Earth more qualified to evaluate the ins and outs of SEO than Mueller. When a Twitter user voiced his frustrations regarding Google not indexing his sites, Mueller set the record straight by reaffirming Google’s disapproval of certain content, replying:
“Well, lots of SEOs & sites (perhaps not you/yours!) produce terrible content that’s not worth indexing. Just because it exists doesn’t mean it’s useful to users.”
While it can be tempting to give in to the temptation of mass-producing subpar content in the hopes that Google will favour your site and shoot you up the search rankings, Mueller’s assertion reinforces the notion that there is no substitute for quality content.
It can therefore be assumed that any content that fails to be indexed by Google has been deemed not worthy by the rigorous search engine. While perhaps ‘terrible’ is a bit of a stretch, it certainly seems as though Mueller and the SEO experts at Google are much more in favour of content that comes across as authentic and carefully written, and they have also recently spoken out against AI-generated content. It is important to keep this in mind when producing content of your own for SEO purposes.
