Google to launch AMBER Alerts to help missing children

‘AMBER Alerts’ is going to be available through Google Search and Google Maps on desktop and mobile, Google announced this week. It has teamed up with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States to join in the search for children who have been abducted.

Google will be introducing Public Alerts on its search page, which will also provide information to the public of floods, storms and other emergencies which occur in the user’s area. The AMBER Alerts will be shown on the search page when searching for something that is related to a particular location in which a connecting alert has already been issued.

Each alert contains the information required to help bring a child home safe and well, including a description of the child, the make and model of car in which the child was abducted, any known information about the person or people who have taken the child and any other information which may be relevant. As Google receives new information about each case, it will update AMBER Alerts.

The feature is only available in the US currently but talks are underway with agencies in Canada and Europe. This is just one example of where the power of Google search can spread the word quickly in a large area, which is why Google plays an integral role in a company’s search engine optimisation strategy. Google search is an important feature in any SEO campaign – whether it’s a business in Chester or California.
