Google Streetview brings World Wonders to life

A new project has recently been launched by Google which will give users the chance to visit famous historical sites online. The sites which are accessible include Kew Gardens and Stonehenge. Google Streetview technology is used to make the World Wonders Project possible. A wide range of sites which have historic value will be available from all over the world. In addition to the sites in the UK, Japan’s Kyoto Temples will also be available.

Users will be able to explore the virtual sites in a number of ways, including YouTube videos, 3D models and pictures. The project aims to preserve 132 historic sites digitally so that they will be accessible to future generations. The project has been made possible by the collaboration of Google, the World Monuments Fund, Unesco, Ourplace and Getty Images.

According to the head of the Google Cultural Institute, Steve Crossan the search giant has made a commitment to the preservation and promotion of culture online. Some of the most historic sites in the world are now accessible to range of audiences. Google’s Art Project was recently launched, which gives users access to some of the most famous art museums worldwide.

Streetview’s creator, Luc Vincent, said:

Google strives to provide information for users, everywhere from Liverpool to LA, which is why it is an integral part of any SEO campaign.
