Research has recently been conducted into changes released within Google Search, which result in opportunities for ecommerce websites to get even more out of the tool.
The research, carried out by seoClarity, investigated 150,000 apparel-related keywords and analysed which search engine results page (SERP) features were used for each one. It found that 95% of the time, rich snippets were shown within search results, which have benefits for ecommerce websites.
Out of the 150,000 keywords studied, the number of times each SERP feature was encountered is shown below:
• Products Carousel – 120,772
• People Also Ask – 57,925
• Frequently Asked Questions – 17,119
• Local – 8,563
• Images – 2,451
• Free Product Listings – 877
Popular Products
The Popular Products search feature, which was introduced back in 2022, was shown for 48% of the searches within the top three results in the SERPs. Products shown in this feature are all free listings, so ecommerce websites don’t have to pay for Google Ads to feature in these snippets with the search results.
How to get free product listings on Google
Getting your products showcased within the Popular Products SERP feature is quite achievable using Google’s Merchant Centre. This enables you to connect your website’s product feed to Google’s servers so that all your products are kept up to date within Google Shopping. Furthermore, according to Google’s documentation, free listings are shown across the Shopping tab, YouTube, Google Search, Google Images and Google Lens, all of which will expand your reach.
