Google rebrands Webmaster Tools

Search firm Google has given one of its analytical packages a new lick of paint to help it to be more appealing in the modern age.

Google Webmaster Tools will change its name to Google Search Console, which the tech company believes will help the service to better reflect how it can help users. The analytical software is used by website marketing experts and news writing services, as well as non-commercial site owners, to check the indexing of their pages with the search engine. They can also use the package to examine the visibility of their website.

However, with Google acknowledging that only a small percentage of the tool’s users identify themselves as ‘webmasters’, it is hoped that updating the decade-old package could help to broaden its appeal further. Google explained:

“We have all kinds of Webmaster Tools fans: hobbyists, small business owners, SEO experts, marketers, programmers, designers, app developers, and, of course, webmasters as well.

“So, to make sure that our product includes everyone who cares about Search, we’ve decided to rebrand Google Webmaster Tools as Google Search Console.”

The search engine company announced the news in a recent blog post, stating that the new branding will be rolled out across its service in the weeks to come. Apart from the name change, Google Search Console will retain the same features of its old incarnation, with nothing scheduled to be changed. However, just as with Webmaster Tools, it is expected that the package will be updated fairly regularly.
