Web giant Google is to host an event tomorrow in which it is expected to reveal the next version of its operating system, Android.
However, press invitations sent out for the event remained cryptic, simply revealing there would be a breakfast and that Sundar Pichai, Google’s new Android chief, would be present.
While the press breakfast is set to take place in San Francisco, reports have hinted that the event could be streamed live to an online audience.
Although Google neglected to confirm whether or not the event would reveal an operating system update, it is widely expected that the company will unveil Android 4.3 Jelly Bean – rather than Android 5.0 as previous rumours have suggested.
If Google does showcase Android 4.3, its unveiling will coincide loosely with Apple’s soon to be released iOS 7. Speculation is also rife surrounding the upcoming Moto X smartphone from Google-owned Motorola, which, it is rumoured, will support Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
While the Android update isn’t expected to bring colossal changes to the current version, it is expected to bring a number of aesthetic updates, including a different font. The camera app may also get a revamp, and a number of bugs have reportedly been addressed. As such, the update isn’t likely to affect marketers’ decisions for the SEO of firms with sites optimised for mobile.
Android 4.3 could also deliver the ‘always on’ voice-command features that were seen in the recently leaked promotional video for the upcoming Moto X smartphone.
Rumours likewise abound that the web giant will reveal the new Nexus 5 smartphone at the press event tomorrow.
