Google+ enables businesses to interact with anyone

Google+ has recently made changes to the way its business pages work, meaning that businesses no longer need to wait for users to ‘circle’ them. The changes mean that it will be much easier for businesses to extend their reach on the social network site and to communicate with users who may be interested in their services or products.

Until now, business owners could not comment on a user’s content unless the user had already chosen to link with the business. The new setting will give businesses the ability to approach users who have made a comment about the business, or about a relevant topic, and will increase the business’s ability to offer good customer service in a proactive way.

Social media sites are now part of many businesses’ campaigns to gain and keep customers, along with services such as specialist blogs and RSS news feeds. Gone are the days when businesses would simply set up a website and carry out some keyword research; although these activities also remain important.

Of course, all social media sites give their users the ability to decide whether they want to go on receiving content from someone, so businesses making use of the Google+ facility will need to ensure that they’re providing messages that are tailored, relevant and interesting to users. As more and more companies sign up for this way of interacting with new customers, it’s likely to be the businesses with the best understanding of their customers’ likes and dislikes who will succeed.
