Google announces new software to bring Android wearable devices closer

Google has announced its plans to develop a new software kit that would allow operating system Android to be used with a range of wearable devices, including the smartwatch.

The company intends to release its new software kit towards the end of the month, in the hope that it will make it easier for manufacturers to use Android as a pivotal part of the smartwatch process. This follows Samsung’s attempt at a smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, which installed the same operating system but had issues with interface and battery life – concerns that Google wishes to address and overcome with its version.

Android is currently the most popular operating system available worldwide, with more than 1.1 billion smartphones and other handheld electronic devices using the system, making the move an easy and logical choice for Google to make.

The California-based firm – perhaps better known for keeping SEO businesses alert through its internet search engine – is said to be taking wearable devices extremely seriously. It is suggested that they are set to become “the next big thing”, according to research analysts, following the smartphone plateau in developed markets.

Google’s Senior Vice President, Sundar Pichai, also revealed the search giant’s intentions to dominate the wearbles market at a conference earlier this month.

It is also rumoured that Apple is planning to develop a smartwatch of its own that would utilise the operating systems currently in use on iPhones and iPads, making this new market highly competitive.
