Following the recent furore over test papers that contained numerous spelling and grammatical errors, is another huge blunder committed by the exam board. A guide issued by the exam board for marking A level coursework contained at least four mistakes. Teachers marking papers using the marking guide, were forced to mark correct answers as being wrong.
The marking guide to be used for checking an AS level paper in Information and Communication Technology contained errors. However, the Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations board have insisted that teachers use the guide, even though that means marking correct answers as wrong, and the board will upgrade the answers when they double-check teachers’ markings.
This follows the errors in GCSE and A level exam papers which caused confusion for teachers and students who were taking their exams. According to Paul Long who manages a support group online for ICT teachers, the problem would have been avoided if a correction had been issued. This latest error has led to a complaint being made to Ofqual, who are investigating. A spokeswoman for OCR gave assurances that the students wouldn’t be affected by the errors, as procedures were in place to deal with the problem.
