A start-up company in France has unveiled what could be the first ever toothbrush to come equipped with internet capabilities.
Showcased at a recent event held ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show, the company behind the device, Kolibree, hopes to “reinvent” the way we look after our teeth, according to its co-founder.
Speaking to the Agence France Presse, Loic Cessot said:
“The technology in the industry has not evolved for years. The idea is not to brush stronger, but smarter.”
The toothbrush has a sensor able to detect the levels of tartar dislodged in one brushing session, and it also monitors activity so that users can ensure they brush consistently.
Information compiled by the Kolibree toothbrush is sent to a corresponding smartphone app.
Cessot explained how parents could use the app if they want to keep on top of their children’s oral health.
He said:
“When you use a normal toothbrush you never really know what you’ve cleaned. It might be 30 per cent. The only person who really knows is the dentist.”
For a business, developing an app to be used in line with its products is one of the best ways of ensuring that customers get the most out of their experience – even if it’s something as everyday as brushing our teeth.
The use of mobile devices alongside activities that would usually be separate is increasingly prevalent.
Watching television at home, for instance, is fast becoming a dual-screen pastime; a recent study conducted in America finding that around 40% of people use tablets and smartphones while watching their favourite shows. With mobile devices continuing to serve, for many people, as their primary method of accessing the Internet, it pays dividends for businesses to ensure that they employ a responsive approach in their web design.
