We all lead busy lives. Sometimes, the days can blend into weeks, and managing your time efficiently is an essential skill all of its own, especially when it comes to running a business.
With this in mind, writing a blog can sometimes be pushed to the bottom of the pile on your to-do list. It can be viewed by some as a non-essential task, and something that can be updated once a week (or month), or simply as and when the mood strikes.
While it can be tempting to fill the time you’ve set aside to write with something you deem more important, you should bear in mind that blogs are now considered to be fundamental in driving traffic to your website. While a great chance to show off your personality and services in more depth, blogs also have the advantage of being natural tools for SEO (search engine optimisation).
So, before you sweep that weekly blog post under the rug, below are some top tips for finding the time to implement great content on your website, and ultimately attract more customers.
Get it done first thing
As discussed here*, a great method for effectively organising your time is to “eat the frog” (to quote Mark Twain).
If you set some time aside first thing in the morning to write your blog post, you can be done by the time you’ve had your second cup of coffee. By fitting the tasks you normally put off in before you do anything else, you’ll be surprised at how free the rest of your day can feel.
Use a timer to overcome procrastination
If you’re prone to procrastination (we all do it), setting a stopwatch on your phone or a timer for a specified hour can help focus your attention. Even if you race through your first draft, at least you went be left staring at a blank screen – and the editing can come later.
Keep a journal handy
If you’re someone who gets a ton of ideas throughout the day, yet have forgotten them by dinner, keep a small notebook and pen with you. This way, you can jot down an idea for a blog or a list of titles as soon as they come to you, to be referred back to later. Having a collection of readymade blog post ideas can be handy for when you come to eventually write one.
Keep it consistent
A blog doesn’t have to be War and Peace. Just so long as you’re connecting with your audience, writing quality content that comes from experience and is relevant to your target market, your consistency is likely to be rewarded. Try to keep to a specific schedule, so your readers know when to expect your content, and when to visit your site for the latest scoop.
