Business networking platform LinkedIn has announced some new features it has in the works.
1. Discover feed
The first new feature the platform is testing out is a ‘Discover’ feed. This will work in a similar way to the ‘For You’ feed on TikTok and the ‘Explore’ page on Instagram, with people being served content from individuals and companies they don’t follow, but that LinkedIn believes matches their interests based on their activity in-app. This content will be videos, events, newsletters and more.
For those who will have their content shown to people on this feed, it could be a good way of expanding their reach and getting more engagement. On the other hand, this would rely on people actually going onto that feed – and given the nature of LinkedIn, which is very much centred around making connections with people, viewing content from persons unknown seems out of character.
2. Meet the team
When it comes to job listings, underneath a vacancy, LinkedIn will feature a ‘Meet the hiring team’ section. This will detail the employees at the hiring company, and will show any mutual connections – including 2nd connections – that the prospective candidate and the team members have.
3. Celebrations
In yet another connection-centred update, LinkedIn is testing out a new tab on the Notifications page, called ‘Celebrations’. Here, users will be able to click through any job changes, work anniversaries, birthdays and other relevant milestones and have the option to view the relevant person’s post or sending them a message.
On the one hand, this update could help people to stay in touch with key connections, though on the other, it could end up with people receiving an influx of meaningless congratulatory messages from connections, clogging up their notifications and inbox.
4. Groups
LinkedIn’s also making some changes to its groups. While these changes aren’t anything major, personalised welcome messages for new group members again highlight the focus the platform appears to have on connection and engagement. Another change is additional criteria for being accepted into a group, which should help ensure groups are filled with more relevant, meaningful members.
A varied mix of updates, all in all, with connection between individuals appearing to be a running theme. If you need help with connecting with your target customers online, why not speak to our team here at Engage Web?
