First Google retail outlet arrives in London

Google’s first physical store has opened in London, with The Chromezone situated inside a Currys and PC World, Tottenham Court road. The store is a trial to sell the Chromebook laptops, which were previously only available online. Google believes that customers will benefit from a face to face demonstration of the laptops.

Google’s own operating system is incorporated into the new laptops, and relies on the Internet for operation. When Google limited the sale of the Chromebook laptops to online only, the decision was questioned by Samsung. When Apple opened its first store in London 2004, the launch received huge publicity unlike Google’s first retail venture which has been low key. Google have said that the format of the store is still in the experimental stages, but more stores may open at a later date.

The head of consumer marketing for Google in the UK and Ireland, Arvind Desikan said that the design of the new store has received huge amounts of attention. Experts of the Chromebook have received extensive training so that they can be on hand to help customers. The category director at Dixons Retail said:

“Initial customer response to the launch of Samsung’s Chromebook has been excellent and we are expecting a lot of customer interest now it is in-store.”

Google has a powerful presence, both online and in physical locations which makes the search engine giant an important resource for other businesses. A large number of companies concentrate on making Google an integral part of their search engine optimisation strategy.
