Facebook Ads set to go 3D

Brands may soon be able to literally add another dimension to their social media advertising, thanks to a new partnership between Meta and a leader in augmented reality (AR) technology.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has agreed a platform integration with VNTANA that will allow companies to upload three-dimensional modules of what they sell and convert them into social media advertisements.

A VNTANA press release published last week draws particular attention to clothing and fashion accessories and how bringing an AR element to the way these items are displayed online can allow users to interact with them. The ability to zoom in and out, rotate and view the items from all angles may help potential customers get a better idea of the proportions and intricacies of products in the same way they would if browsing them in a traditional store.

The press release also includes a video showing how the interface works.

The agreement represents arguably the first major example of Meta living up to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of building a “metaverse company”, meaning one that uses virtual spaces to immerse users in new “worlds”. This was a concept Zuckerberg stressed before and during the rebrand that took place in October.

Online stores offer a great opportunity for retailers to sell items without customers having to visit stores for themselves, and have been an especially valuable lifeline during Covid lockdown periods, but one often-cited stumbling block is the costly issue of returns and refunds. Retailers of clothing, or any item where appearance or dimensions are important, will no doubt welcome the opportunity to provide a more accurate way for online shoppers to gauge their products and ensure there is no disappointment when they receive them.

At Engage Web, we’ve seen the power of Facebook Ads and have helped our clients to huge returns on investment, so it’s exciting to learn how the tool is evolving. If you’d like to learn more about what social media marketing can do for your business, talk to us today.
