A learning website which has been set up to provide literacy and job interview skills has been criticised after a number of spelling errors were discovered. The Learning Zone is there to help recipients of Jobseekers Allowance to improve their literacy and interview skills. However, the website which was set up by Avanta, an employment company, is full of spelling and typing errors, and grammatical mistakes.
The government has invested £5 billion in a back to work programme, which is intended to help those without jobs back into employment in the next seven years. Copy on The Learning Zone website reads:
“This course uses a variet or media and different resourses.”
Candidates for jobs were told they would have “equal opportunies” and a course which “foucses” on preparation for a job interview. According to the Daily Mail, Stephen Dixon, aged 38, has said:
“Recently there have been reports setting out possible plans for benefits claimants-if they do not get their literacy levels to a certain level their benefits will be cut.”
Dixon has expressed his disapproval of the mistakes on the website by reporting them to Avanta. Although the errors were discovered in July, nothing has been done to correct them. One of the regional directors with Avanta, Kaye Rideout was not happy that the errors have still not been rectified.
Errors, spelling and grammatical, cause embarrassment for the company concerned, especially if the website is educational. Content outsourcing to a professional writer will ensure accuracy which will create trust with website users.
