Twitter users can rejoice, as the coveted edit tweet option has moved one step closer, with it being rolled out to select subscribers.
Interestingly, subscribers of Twitter Blue – the social media giant’s paid offering that allows access to premium features – who are located in the US have not been included in this initial rollout, let alone the UK. Initially, it is only being made available to those located in New Zealand, Canada and Australia.
The news was announced via the official @TwitterBlue account, with it saying that the testing phase – which took place back in September – went well. Listing the countries that can now access the ‘Edit Tweet’ button, the account also stated that it would soon be introduced to the US.
In follow-up tweets, the account shared videos explaining how the feature works. A pencil icon will appear next to any tweet that’s been edited in a user’s feed, and on an individual tweet, people can view its version history.

To edit a tweet, all users will need to do is click the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the tweet, click on the ‘Edit Tweet’ button, and make any necessary changes.
While there has been no mention as of yet as a release here in the UK, if the US launch is coming soon, it likely won’t be long before it’s available on these shores too.
We’ve spoken before about the benefits of an edit option on Twitter – with it presenting businesses with the option to correct any mistakes they made have unwittingly made in a tweet without having to sacrifice on engagement. However, it must be noted that tweets only have a 30-minute window to be edited, so brands should ensure they always proofread their posts as standard and are on the ball with spotting any errors that may have slipped through the cracks.
