Dragon’s Den star helps businesses with Twitter initiative

Jacqui Thompson, a business woman from Sleaford, recently attended a champagne reception hosted by Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis. The reception was held to celebrate the winners of Small Business Sunday, launched by the business entrepreneur. Jacqui appeared on Dragon’s Den in September 2011, in an attempt to win over the investors and gain financial backing.

Following a presentation by Jacqui, the Dragons stated “I’m out” which meant that Jacqui wouldn’t get the backing. However, since that appearance on Dragon’s Den, Jacqui’s business delivering forensic workshops to schools has steadily grown, boosted by referrals, hard work and her appearance on Dragon’s Den for three minutes.

The Small Business Sunday initiative was launched by Theo Paphitis to encourage small businesses owners to send him a Tweet telling him about their business venture. Each Sunday, six winners are chosen by Theo, which are then Tweeted to his 235,000 followers. The successful businesses are also given access to his SBS website, where they can present the profile of their business and update on a regular basis.

Jacqui Thompson won the competition in March and attended the celebration at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground. During the reception, guests were given the opportunity to ask the Dragon questions, in addition to receiving a certificate signed by him and a photograph. Social networking sites play an important role in search engine optimisation. Whether a business is situated in a large city like Liverpool or a more rural area, social networking sites are beneficial in a SEO campaign.
