Don’t be a ‘muppet’ about social media

It’s not easy being green‘, Kermit the Frog once said. It’s the colour of so many ordinary things. He was right – green is a fairly ordinary colour, and tends to blend in. Yet, somehow, Kermit managed to get his own TV show, headed a cast of far more unusual creatures, and worked his way into the hearts of millions around the world. How on earth did this ordinary creature do it?

The answer, of course, is that Kermit isn’t really ordinary. While he is a straightforward, everyday frog, he has a lot of creativity behind him. He can be profound, funny, and engaging. Most important of all, Kermit never truly believed that he was just an ordinary frog. You could tell.

Many website owners steer clear of social media campaigns in connection with their SEO because they feel they just aren’t interesting enough. They need to learn a few lessons from Kermit if they’re to succeed with social marketing.

Your social media optimisation isn’t necessarily going to be derailed if your industry is less than scintillating as a subject. You could be a fertiliser manufacturer in Liverpool and still manage to operate a stellar campaign. The only way you can guarantee your campaign will fail is if you enter into it with the attitude that you are boring.

Social media updates should be one of your easier SEO jobs. Start from a point of personal interest, and you aren’t likely to go wrong.

P.S. I know that Kermit isn’t a real frog, or person. But wouldn’t it be great if he was?
