The number of devices being activated based on the Android OS continues to grow, according to Andy Rubin who is in charge of the operating system for smartphones at Google. Numbers have now reached more than 900,000 activations every day, in comparison with 500,000 half way through 2011 and February 2012’s figure of 850,000.
Rubin has been Tweeting about the huge numbers of devices being activated on a daily basis, but hasn’t provided details of how the numbers were split between tablets, smartphones and alternative devices. Android smartphone deliveries had increased by 145 percent during the first quarter of 2012, according to data provided by IDC market research company. IDC monitors the number of units sold rather than the activation of devices.
Not everyone is happy though, as High Tech Computer again lowered forecasts for expected revenue as sales to Europe were much lower than predicted. As the world of smartphones is increasingly controlled by Apple and Samsung Electronics, other companies including Google-owned Motorola Mobility, LG Electronics, Sony Mobile and HTC are left floundering. According to the managing partner of Arete Research, Richard Kramer the fastest growth will occur in the cheaper end of the smartphone market. Companies like Huawei Technologies and ZTE are keeping prices low although this will mean less profit.
Google’s Android will continue to be a market leader although competition may have an adverse affect in the future. Google is typically at the forefront of changes and improvements which is why it is a part of any SEO campaign for businesses in all areas from Liverpool to LA.
