Google Universal Analytics is being retired within the next few weeks. With this in mind, what do you need to do to make sure that you can continue to monitor traffic to your website?
The day we’ve been waiting for is nearly upon us, with Google’s universal analytics (yes, the Google Analytics you currently use) is being retired on July 1st 2023. This means that your Google Analytics will not be tracking any further visitors to your website. Don’t worry though. All you need to do is setup Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on your website and then you’ll be able to continue monitoring visitors to your website.
The Universal Analytics platform
You may have had an email from Google by now, or may have seen the banner at the top of your Google Analytics telling you to ‘Begin migration’. To setup GA4, just click on ‘Begin migration’ and you’ll be able to setup a GA4 property for your website. We’ve also written a blog titled ‘How to setup Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on your website’ which guides you through the setup if you get stuck.
If you want to track goals on your GA4 platform, then you’ll need to use Google Tag Manager to get this set up; these are now called Events in GA4. We’ve also put a guide together to show you how to setup goals/events for Google Analytics 4 with Google Tag Manager.
If you don’t have GA4 setup on your website already, you’ll need to as soon as possible to make sure that you can continue to track visitors to your website.
