Search Engine Optimisation: The SEO Lowdown: does your website work well with the search engines?
Although at Engage Web we provide a wide range of Internet marketing services, SEO, or search engine optimisation, is at the heart of what we do. At Engage Web, we have a different way of looking at search engine optimisation than many other SEO companies.
Search engine optimisation is all about communication with the search engines. Although most websites are built with communication with potential customers in mind, this doesn’t automatically ensure the search engines will be able to access information easily. Most websites still aren’t communicating effectively with search engines, even after more than a decade of developing knowledge on the Internet. Search engine optimisation is a specialist discipline in itself; it’s the process by which you can tell the search engines what your website is all about and why your site should rank higher than the websites of your competitors.
Why would you want to communicate with the search engines? The answer is easy. Having a great website design doesn’t mean that your customers are going to see it, but being featured in the search engine results pages (or SERPs) does.
Search engines can provide huge volumes of traffic. For most websites, search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing are a major traffic source. This is how it should be for just about every website, but for many sites, a lack of SEO can either keep them off the main search engine results pages, or leave them out of the search listings altogether.
