Football club director in Twitter screengrab mystery

Carlisle United F.C. director Steven Pattison has strongly denied that he was responsible for an unusual tweet that appeared on his account last week.

Now deleted, local newspaper The News and Star reports that the tweet was a screengrab from a mobile phone, and showed a conversation in which another club director, a local reporter and a potential investor were all criticised.

Having deleted the message, Pattison insisted that he did not post the message himself:

The director went on to tweet that his phone had been charging at his desk at the time of the incident, and suggested that he would make sure his phone was locked from now on in such situations.

The messages displayed in the screenshot were reportedly accredited to a ‘Keith’, leading some observers to speculate that they may have been sent by former England international player Keith Curle, who currently manages the Sky Bet League 2 side. Pattison and the club have yet to comment on this suggestion.

Pattison is no stranger to Twitter misuse, having himself been on the receiving end of an offensive trolling incident in 2013, all of which is a reminder that social media can be as destructive in the wrong hands as it is valuable in the right ones.

The Twitter whodunnit is the latest incident in what has been an eventful start to the season for the Cumbrian club, who have both scored and conceded the most goals in their division and can look forward to a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Capital One Cup later this month.
