Jura, the Scottish island where legendary author George Orwell penned his perennial novel 1984, has disappeared from sight on Google Maps.

Following complaints from Jura residents and tourists in the region that the island was nowhere to be seen on Google Maps, the search giant issued an apology.

Facebook to bring in hashtags

In a similar vein to the staple feature of rival site Twitter, Facebook has announced plans to introduce hashtags.

Just like on Twitter, the hashtag feature will enable users to view trending topics and what their friends are saying, grouping comments together by following the # symbol with a trending keyword.
